Event Photography Banking & Finance
For the 3rd time in a row I implemented congress photography in Berlin as Frankfurt photographer. The client was once again BVK, which held the Top Event Equity Market at the Jewish Museum.
Another challenge at this congress was that I, as an event photographer, not only had to document the event, but also realize a photo slide show with the first highlights from the morning.
What were the highlights of the congress and how were they implemented by me.
First of all, some information about the client. The Bundesverband Deutscher Kapitalbeteiligungsgesellschaften (German Private Equity and Venture Capital Association) is the voice of the private equity industry in Germany and advocates access to equity capital for the German economy.
Equity capital is the growth engine for innovations, company start-ups and thus strengthens medium-sized businesses. The association brings together 300 members, of which almost 200 are investment companies that invest in German companies with venture capital, growth financing or as part of buy-outs.
Institutional investors are also among the members. The association represents the interests of the investment industry in Germany vis-à-vis politicians, the press, market players and the public.
This year’s program featured insights into the state of the Brexit negotiations by EU foreign policy expert Elmar Brok. Other highlights included the challenges of digitization for SMEs and the panel discussion on the behavior of Chinese investors, which was introduced with a keynote speech by Dr. Frank Stiler (CEO Kraus Maffei Group). Entrepreneur, business angel and bestselling author Florian Langenscheidt talked about the happiness of founding a company.
Congress photography challenge
On the one hand, the incidence of light in the glass courtyard of the Jewish Museum ensures bright lighting conditions in the mornings; on the other hand, in the afternoons, different levels of sunlight can cause some speakers to stand in bright sunlight or shade.
Photography with a photo slideshow
The client wanted to present the photos of the morning on a big screen already after the lunch break from 14.00 o’clock. The format for the projector was 16:9 (1920 x 1080 pixels) . Since I can’t shoot and edit images at the same time, I was assisted by a colleague who did the image review and cropping for the slideshow on the spot. Here, too, the best moments of a congress have to be captured and “correctly reproduced” in a short time.

In the seventh broadcast of the talk show Schlossplatz Berlin – Where Politics Meets Business, Ulrike Hinrichs discussed the question “Are we a Founders’ Republic?”
Their guests were Dr. Florian Langenscheidt, entrepreneur, best-selling author and business angel, Ralph Brinkhaus MdB, deputy chairman of the German Bundestag. Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Jochen Engert, founder and CEO of Flixbus, and Dr. Hendrik Brandis, Partner Earlybird Venture Capital.
Since live broadcasting and cameras were set up in the center, right and left, I had to act quickly and discreetly as a photographer. On the podium, the 5 guests already mentioned were interviewed. Depending on the question, I had to switch to the right or left side to capture a good perspective with the speaker.
At the end of the event, I was able to hand over 200 edited images to my client. All images were created so that there were “web format” images (low resolution up to 300 KB) and high resolution images (300 dpi up to 3 MB/press images).
The BVK was given a wide range of image motifs to choose from and was able to select motifs for its website that matched the layout and concept of the website.
Through the long-term cooperation with BVK, I knew the “visual wishes ” of my client and was then able to implement them accordingly in the photo slide show as well as for the website.
Use of professional congress photos
My goal is to support my client in every event with an emotional visual language in such a way that the value of the event is also concisely reflected by the further combination through the use of press releases, information on the website. I was also able to professionally implement short-term customer requests, such as the request for a photo slide presentation, so that my customer could fully concentrate on his core tasks.
Of course, the sponsors of an event are also important. The aim here is not only to photograph an event chronologically, but also to capture a concrete message in pictures in an exchange on site with the participants.
