Business photography for an association
New business portraits for the BDI, which is one of the three large medical associations in Germany and Europe’s largest association of medical specialists, with around 25,000 members today. As an association, it protects, promotes and represents the social and professional interests and concerns of German internists.
The BDI also supports the continuing professional development of specialists in internal medicine. With its own congress department, the association organizes numerous international and regional BDI congresses and training events every year.
The association also provides advice to its members on legal issues such as the law governing panel doctors and their professional status, coding obligations, performance audits, remuneration and drug recourses, and employment contracts.
With the BDI scholarship, the association supports students whose career goal is “internal medicine”. The established student support program of the BDI has existed since 2005 and can take place at the earliest with the successful completion of the physics examination.
Uniform business portraits for the new BDI website
The task for me as a photographer was to take consistent images of the contact persons for the redesign and alignment of the website.
In addition to the topic of creating uniform photo material for the website, the topic of video statements was also realized. “Why am I a member of the BDI and what makes the BDI special? These statements were performed in parallel on the same day alongside the photography. I have been working with Inmotion Medien for years and offer my clients photography and video services from a single source.
In the overall concept of photography and video, the business portraits were then also integrated into the video.

Cropping – background for the business portraits
A green background was used for better cropping of the images. The cropping of the images with a blue background was done by the BDI`s graphic department itself. In a first shooting the managing director Mr. Radau was taken by me. This way my client could see what the process of the shoot is like.
The challenge for the overall assignment was to photograph all of the physicians who had traveled to Wiesbaden nationwide for a meeting in parallel within a very short period of time, and then to record a short video statement from the same person afterwards. Here, there was an intensive customer exchange in advance and also a detailed schedule of how the shoot could be illustrated in the given customer time frame.
Intended use of the images
The business portraits were to be used for the website, as well as for the use of display stands and other advertising materials. For the new concept of the website, the participants should then also be provided with a “speech bubble” later. Thus, the facial expression was not allowed to be static and friendly, but the “speech movement” should also fit the subject of the doctor.
For the website, the task also consisted of portraying selected doctors in such a way that “speech bubbles” were then added later in the graphic post-processing. Thus, some of the participants were recorded in three different “set variants”. A classic business portrait a portrait for the use of a speech bubble and shots with props of the doctors for further, later use of banners and other advertising materials.
